Netflix has released the first trailer for David Ayer's (Suicide Squad) urban fantasy cop thriller Bright. Will Smith plays a cop named Ward, and the film also stars Joel Edgerton (Warrior) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus). It's set in an alternate world where mythical creatures like faeries and elves co-exist with humans. The story follows Smith's character who is forced to team up with an Orc (Edgerton) and "their ordinary beat takes a decidedly unordinary turn when they wind up coming into the possession of a massively powerful (and highly illegal) weapon: a magic wand."An elf also becomes involved in the events, and she somehow acquires the wand that's being hunted down by evil villains. It's cool seeing Smith in a cop uniform battling mythical creatures, and I like how Netflix is bringing an urban fantasy original to its streaming service. I don't really have high expectations for this film, but I bet this is much better than Ayer's previous work with Smith.
Synopsis:

Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward (Will Smith) and Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.
Bright will premiere on Netflix December 2017.
