After Earthling Cinema and Thug Notes, Wisecrack now has a new segment called What Went Wrong, and it goes through in-depth analyses about movies that didnāt end up so great. Their latest breakdown ā Christopher Nolanās The Dark Knight Rises.
Personally I thought that The Dark Knight Rises was a disappointing follow-up to The Dark Knight, and Wisecrack apparently agrees. They talk about the themes that were heavily borrowed from Charles Dickensā A Tale of Two Cities, and how the movie just ends up where the previous one left off.
When Dark Knight ended with the noble lie that Harvey Dent was still a hero, Rises followed up how the lie would eventually blow up on itself, and it stumbled poorly when it came to handling the theme. Whatās more, the movie also ends with another noble lie: Bruce Wayne faking his death so the Batmanās legacy lives on.
Itās interesting to see what the movie was trying to set up, but eventually failed to explore. Now we have an all new DC Universe, and though it tries to discuss some heavy themes as well, it still suffers from poor execution.
If you like these kinds of vids, you should check out more from Wisecrack. They have analyses onSuicide Squad, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Rick and Morty.
