Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for its latest sci-fi flick, Midnight Special. The trailer comes after the movie’s debut at the Berlin Film Festival.
Directed by Jeff Nichols, Midnight Special follows the story of a young boy named Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), who has special powers and who is on the escape with his father Roy (Michael Shannon). Alton’s mysterious powers could have grave consequences if placed in the wrong hands.
Check out the electrifying new trailer below:
Along with Lieberher and Shannon, the film stars Joel Edgerton, Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Shepard.
Details of Midnight Special remains a mystery. Director Jeff Nichols has made sure of it until its release. Nobody knows exactly what kind of powers Alton holds, and I think it is better knowing the specifics upon watching the film.
From what I can glean from the trailer though, it looks like the life of Roy and his family is in danger. It also puts in question whether loving Alton means letting him go or holding on to him since he’s obviously not human.
Midnight Special Official Synopsis:
In the sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers.
What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.
Midnight Special will be released on March 18.
