Watch the First 8 Minutes of Sonic the Hedgehog

Despite a terrible reception of the first trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog has managed to get good reviews upon release, and is now one of the highest grossing video game films of all time. Due to COVID-19, the movie is finding itself on digital earlier than expected, and you can actually watch the first 8 minutes of the film for free.

The first 8 minutes actually packs a lot of the film; more than I thought it would. Besides giving us the origin of how Sonic finds himself on Earth, we also get an introduction to the setting of Green Hills, and we also get to meet James Marsden's ‘Donut Lord'. Plus we have some great gags from Sonic including the one where he picks up the turtle as well as the one where he gives us a look around his boy cave.

I have to say, Sonic the Hedgehog was a pretty solid kids' movie, and I can imagine a lot of kids falling in love with Sonic after the first watch; he's fun, energetic, and has a lot of great lines. Jim Carrey also has a lot of fun as the villain Dr. Robotnik. Though he's been working on more mature things lately, it's great to see him try and do what he does best for a younger audience.

Sonic tries to navigate the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound best friend -- a human named Tom Wachowski. They must soon join forces to prevent the evil Dr. Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his powers for world domination.

Sonic the Hedgehog is now available on digital.
