Warner Bros. Planning To Transition Ben Affleck’s Batman Out Of The DCEU

A lot of DC fans might love Ben Affleck's version of Bruce Wayne but it looks like the DC Expanded Universe star may not be staying the burgeoning superhero franchise for long.

Now that Justice League is fast approaching its release date Warner Bros. has begun to map the DCEU with more decisiveness and according to The Hollywood Reporter, it seems like the studio is planning a future without Batfleck. Though The Batman director Matt Reeves intends to keep Affleck in his Batsuit, a source has told the publication that Warner Bros. is working on a way to help gracefully transition the DCEU star's version of Batman out of the franchise.

This new report comes in despite Warner Bros. Toby Emmerich saying that "Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can."

Though Batman vs. Superman didn't turn out so well, Affleck's Batman was well received by fans and critics saying that Hollywood actor's rendition of the superhero was the closest anyone's gotten to the brooding vigilante. However, with Affleck turning 45 this year, the studio has probably begun considering the longevity of the Batfleck. Affleck would be turning 50 by the time Reeve's trilogy hits its second and third film, and while there are older Hollywood actors (eg. Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise) who can keep to their heroic cinematic charades, age certainly comes in to factor when doing heavy stunts.

Of course with Affleck placed deep into the center of the DCEU, it'll probably be difficult for the studio to switch the Hollywood star with a new actor, but with comic book stories like Batman Final Crisis the studio just might be able to pull it off.

Justice League makes its way to the big screen on November 17, 2017.
