Venom Director in Final Talks to Helm Uncharted Movie

Ruben Fleischer has had a great working relationship with Sony, what with the success of Zombieland and Venom. Now Sony is once again courting him to work on a franchise they can't seem to get off the ground—Uncharted.

According to Discussing Film, Fleischer is now in final talks to helm Sony's adaptation of the popular Uncharted series. We don't have any specifics as to how close these talks are to finishing, but hopefully, Fleischer is a director that will manage to stick.

Before Fleischer, the movie was supposed to be directed by Bumblebee's Travis Knight, but scheduling conflicts had forced Knight to back out of the project. Before Knight, other directors attached to the movie included Joe Carnahan, Shawn Levy, and Dan Trachtenberg.

Though Uncharted may be stuck in development hell for a while, some elements remain constant with the film. We know that Tom Holland is still attached to play a young Nathan Drake, and it still looks like Mark Wahlberg is going to be playing his mentor Sully. While we don't know which character this is, word has it that the film is also looking to cast its female lead; my guess is it's going to be Elena, Drake's wife in the games, but I would love for a more unpredictable choice.

Sony is looking to launch a new studio branch that will deal with video game films with Uncharted and seeing as to how hard it's been to get this movie going, it's not a good look for Playstation Studios. Hopefully, the movie comes out great, because that would open the door to other adaptations like God of War, The Last of Us, or maybe even an animated film for Crash Bandicoot. I'm just spit-balling here.

The Uncharted movie is now aiming for a release on March 5, 2021.
