Uncharted's Nathan Drake VA Doesn't Think Mark Wahlberg Suits the Part of Sully

Sony is pretty hell bent on getting the Uncharted movie made, and for some reason, delays just keep happening, from directors leaving and now, COVID-19. The film has already cast the lead roles with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, but original Uncharted star Nolan North thinks that the film has miscast Sully.

Talking to Retro Play, North was asked about the Last of Us series and the Uncharted film, to which he says he isn't too excited about the latter. He goes on to say, "I love Mark Wahlberg but I don't see him as Sully. I just don't see that as Sully."

Co-actor Troy Baker, who was also in Uncharted as Sam Drake, also had this to say about the Uncharted movie, "I don't see that thing happening at all."

Admittedly, I'm also not a fan of the casting for the film, especially with Tom Holland playing a younger Nathan Drake. Though I have no doubt he has the acting chops, I just think this was a way for Sony to try and bank in on his Spider-Man fame to help kick off another franchise. I also can't imagine Wahlberg for the part of Sully as well, but if they're so adamant in keeping him, maybe he did some chemistry tests with Holland and it all turned out great.

It seems that everything is going against this Uncharted film, but that honestly kind of makes me want to see it succeed more. While I think The Last of Us deserves the series treatment, I think something like Uncharted is more fit for the spectacle of a blockbuster movie. Then again, that's just my opinion.

The Uncharted film is set for a release on Oct. 8, 2021.
