IT is coming back to theaters in September and Bill Skarsgard will be taking the role of Pennywise the Clown. What you didn't know was that another actor was considered for the role, and that actress was the ever-versatile Tilda Swinton.

In an interview with JoBlo, IT director Andres Muschietti reveals that Swinton was indeed considered to play Pennywise, but she wasn't even able to audition for the part because of her schedule. He explains:

"She wasn't available. No, no I swear to god. She was not. We had a slot to shoot the movie and she wasn't available so she didn't even audition. But of course, we all thought about it."

Though I think Skarsgard is already perfectly creepy in the trailers that have been coming out, I'm now curious as to what Swinton would have looked like in all the clown make-up. No doubt she would do another complete transformation of herself—just like she did in Doctor Strange and Okja. Just like an Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man, Tilda Swinton as Pennywise is something we won't be seeing.

It seems there's some kind of renewed interest in Stephen King material. First Stranger Things, then IT, and now we're also getting a Dark Tower movie. I failed to mention that Stranger Things protagonist Finn Wolfhard (Mike) is also in this movie. He's the nerdy kid with the glasses.

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, neighborhood kids band together to square off against Pennywise, an evil clown whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

IT hits theaters Sept. 8.
