Thor Ragnarok's First Footage Promises an Incredible and Funny Adventure

The first footage of scenes shot from Thor: Ragnarok came in by way of Doctor Strange's Blu-Ray, and it promises an incredible adventure with a lot of Hulk smashes, a powerful villain, and - surprise! - moments of humor. The funny aspect doesn't seem to align with the whole concept of ragnarok which in the old Norse world literally meant "the end of the universe." But it comes straight from the minds behind this Asgardian movie's magic: Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, executive producer Brad Winderbaum, and director Taika Waititi. All of them were interviewed in the featurette.

The concept art is breathtaking and shows layers of Asgard which have not been seen before, especially its underworld. Cate Blanchette lends majesty to the encroaching darkness as Hela, described in the featurette as the "impending evil" that Thor discovers. Norse legends actually refer to her as the queen of the dead, and the concept art gives us a first view of her forbidding kingdom.

Thor-Hulk scenes, already confirmed in earlier reports, also get a fresh wind in the concept art. The green giant's love-hate relationship with the son of Odin will obviously have a lot of smashdown action. And maybe that's where the fun part will also come from. Waititi says that despite the spectacle, he will take viewers on an adventure that will keep them "laughing."

The featurette also shows behind-the-scene shots of Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding superhero leaping into action.

How all these tie in together is given a hint in IMDB's plot description of Thor: Ragnarok. It says: "Thor must face Hulk in a gladiatorial match and save his people from the ruthless Hela."

Based on this description, it seems that Hela rises up from her dark kingdom, captures the two Avengers, and pits them against each other in a fight to the death. The stake: the fate of Asgard.
