After being delayed and set aside for an indefinite time, the new version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now given an official release window for the next-gen update for Xbox series and the PlayStation 5. To those who have been waiting for it since last year, it is finally happening in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Via the official Twitter page of Witcher series, CD Projekt Red proudly announced that the update of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 will be happening by the fourth quarter of the year. The announcement formed part of the celebration of The Witcher’s seven year anniversary.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update was initially set with a 2021 release window but it did not push through. In April 2022, a major change for the developers of the game happened from Saber Interactive, the developer of Evil Dead: The Game, shifting to CD Projekt Red’s in-house team. After that, the game was set for an indefinite release.
Other than the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, other announcements were also dropped by CD Projekt Red about other projects under development such as GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and The Witcher: Monster Slayer. There would also be a GWENT Spinoff coming from Thronebreaker.
The Witcher 4 also got an update that it would be built in Unreal Engine 5 where it is expected that the game would be taking a new path by giving focus to the other characters and their stories instead of just focusing on Geralt of Rivia and his adventures.
The Witcher: Wild Hunt follows the adventure of Geralt of Rivia in search of his missing daughter, Ciri, who is in great danger as she is being tracked down by Wild Hunt, an evil and supernatural being. The game was released in 2015 following The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011 and The Witcher in 2007. All these games were based and inspired on the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski, the Witcher novel series.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen upgrade will be available to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 in Quarter 4 of 2022.
