The Walking Dead’s Talking Dead Looks Back at Glenn, Abraham, Hints at Funny Episode

By now, you probably know the big news that came with the shock of Negan's bat on the premiere episode of The Walking Dead. But if not, spoilers ahead.

Hot on the heels of the premiere, the cast and showrunners of The Walking Dead gathered for the after-show The Talking Dead. And of course, taking center stage was the unexpected-but-really-expected victim, Glenn Rhee. Actor Steven Yeun revealed (via Deadline) that Glenn's death had been one that he was fully behind and supportive of.

"The death in the comic Robert (Kirkman) wrote was such a messed up, but at the same time incredible way to take something away, and make a story as impactful as it is. When you read that comic, you kind of don't want that to go to anyone else. I think I even said ‘don't give that to anybody else.'"

As everyone knows, Glenn wasn't the only victim. The one who was bludgeoned grandly to death while taking it like a champ was none other than Abraham. Actor Michael Cudlitz had one aspect in the death that he did appreciate, and that was the three-letter final words to Negan: Suck. My. Nuts.

"These guys had a tough time inserting any dialogue with Abraham because of where we left last season. There was no interaction with the rest of the group, to actually insert something in there was very, very awesome."

Emotions are still undoubtedly running high with how The Walking Dead played out for its new season. But according to showrunner Scott M. Gimple, next week will be comparably funny. Not to say that this episode was at all funny—besides Abraham's killer last words, I think we can all agree that we were just staring at the screen—or surprised screaming at that iconic scene.

According to Gimple, however, the fact that we'll be seeing a tiger and Ezekiel, and the Kingdom as a whole may bring that lighter mood he's talking about.

I guess that would be a nice break. I've seen far too much blood and crying. Let's let the festivities begin.

The Walking Dead airs every Sundays on AMC.
