The Walking Dead’s Negan Changes the Game, Story Stays Human

Everyone knows that the arrival of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan spells a big change for The Walking Dead. No matter how mixed the reactions of fans may be to how season 6 ended, it's undeniable that season 7 is one of the most anticipated upcoming seasons.

We've all heard how Negan will change the "world" of those in the show. And we've seen several speculations of how he will affect the dynamics of the group following whoever's demise it will be thanks to Lucille.

This time, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd shared that Negan will be the "gamechanger" for The Walking Dead season 7. She opened this topic at a masterclass in Edinburgh International TV Festival. It was also here that she had confirmed that the creators will not prolong that reveal, Variety reported.

"In this new season Negan is the gamechanger, and whatever we did someone was going to be unhappy… so we promised we will be picking up where that left off; we are not going to draw it out."

Considering the possible lineup—and even bigger and more dangerous possibilities of a big one dyingyou know someone will mourn the loss of a favorite mainstay. Hurd was with Michael Cudlitz at the event.

Cudlitz is the redheaded military man in The Walking Dead, and one who is also in the lineup for Lucille's love. He gave the audience some insight of how it felt to be one of the characters.

He said that the hardest part wasn't having to be on their knees for as long as eight hours in November while the scene was being shot in that very cold weather. It was knowing that one of the heroes' time was up after the scene was wrapped.

I guess that statement alone confirms that someone will die. For the longest time, I've been starting to wonder if it's not a death they would be planning but rather a very gross mutilation, one that perhaps surpasses even Hershel's amputation.

Veering a little away from the threat of Negan and back to the heart of the show, zombies, Hurd stated that the show has finally started to really show its main core, which is the human drama.

"It's not about the zombies, it's about the humans."

And it's true. When the sixth season ended, I think hardly anyone was even thinking of zombies. I sure wasn't.

The Walking Dead season 7 will be back on Oct. 23.
