The Walking Dead’s Ezekiel Talks About His Relationships in The Show

Following the very emotionally jarring premiere episode, AMC treated us to a more manageable second episode, which introduced a new character to the show. The Walking Dead fans have just met Ezekiel, who may be this season's resident weirdo with a dark past.

But even though the self-appointed king seems to be living in his own farce of a kingdom, it doesn't mean that he's so far detached, particularly to two people who may affect change in his person.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, The Walking Dead Executive Producer and Director Greg Nicotero touched on what fans are aching to know: will there be love blooming in the air between the now-skeptic Carol and the ever-flighty Ezekiel?

Nicotero didn't respond definitively, but he recognized that there are some feelings between the two, though not necessarily in the romantic arena—at least maybe not for now.

"I think he admires her and respects her, and I think she admires and respects him as well. Because he gets her and she understands what he's trying to do."

It's a nice little buildup in The Kingdom, and perhaps what could be the seeds of what the comic see in Ezekiel and Michonne. While the comic hasn't seen any definitive movement in that area, we see that Rick and Michonne in the show have already moved very far along in the same way that their Rick and Andrea comic counterparts have.

As far as his relationship with Negan and the Saviors go, we still have yet to know how they came to the agreement with the group. From what we've seen, there's a very interesting game plan going on in Ezekiel's camp, which we hope will come to fruition later on.

But as far as how the Kingdom's leader will move forward with the Saviors, actor Khary Payton said to IGN that he may not necessarily take up arms until he's very much provoked.

"I don't know, but it's probably going to be bad. It's like, there's some people who like to fight and there are other people that don't like to fight until you make them mad. It's like those old Bruce Lee movies. He didn't want trouble. He's just trying to work in his family's restaurant, then somebody beat the crap out of his cousin or killed his sister, and it was like, all e saw is red. I feel kind of like the same way. You know, you really shouldn't poke this guy. He's got a scepter, but there's a sword in there."

The Walking Dead will air on Sundays, 9:00 p.m. on AMC.
