The Walking Dead Won’t Leave You Hanging at the End of Season 7

When the credits started to roll in that last episode of The Walking Dead before we got to see whose head got bashed in, a lot of people had veins near-popping on their foreheads.

Apart from not knowing who got the Lucille, it was still six months' worth of waiting to see who gets it. As proof, fans have even started threatening to boycott the show, because considering how Negan had been built up as the character who will kill off a mainstay, only to end up with a screen splashed with blood and no face to match the brains with.

Fans can take some comfort when they go into The Walking Dead season 7 as this kind of cliffhanger will not happen. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Robert Kirkman acknowledged that while there are fans who were not happy with how they ended season six, he also noted that there were some who liked the mystery.

"I definitely have to take note that there's a seemingly significant portion of the audience that wasn't happy with that direction, so in that respect I think everyone on The Walking Dead creative team has taken note of that, and I don't know that I would expect a similar cliffhanger at the end of season 7."

The movie, it appears, was a way for the show creators to try and take the show in a different direction. For season 7, Kirkman promised that showrunner Scott Gimple is putting together an engaging show.

At the end of the day, the minds behind The Walking Dead is aiming one thing, which is to tell the best story that they can, while ensuring that Kirkman's comic is still adapted to the best it can.

Perhaps the biggest issue that I've had with the cliffhanger ending for The Walking Dead season 6 was not so much the wait. It was the rumor that not even the showrunners supposedly had a definite idea on who they would want to kill. If it was to base their decisions on what the audience thinks, then that would be the problem. But knowing what we do know now, I think we can rest a little easier for the seventh season.

The Walking Dead is coming on Oct. 23 on AMC.
