The Walking Dead Season 7 is More Than Death—There’s Also Love and Comedy

Who said that The Walking Dead is just all about death and the undead? The showrunners have weighed in their thoughts about what the next season will be like, and it's supposedly not all that grim.

In an interview with Skybound, showrunner Scott Gimple and Executive Producer David Alpert have tried to give very broad strokes about what fans can expect for season 7. Interestingly Gimple hints that there's more than the proverbial death coming in The Walking Dead.

"It's not all death and mayhem this season. There's straight up comedy, there's lightness this season, there's love this season. It's just very hard to get to that considering what happens in the first episode."

Alpert says what's probably in the back of people's minds—of course, after they get over the death that greets us on the first episode.

"I think that it's just gonna be a big party. I think that Negan seems like a fun guy… Why people are ruling out the possibility of a campfire singalong, I just don't understand."

It's not just Negan, of course. Whoever will die on the first episode of season 7 will have my condolences, sure. But the show has also hinted at a lot of action, new characters in the form of Ezekiel, his tiger, and his kingdom, and more roles for the likes of Paul "Jesus" Monroe and the Saviors.

The Walking Dead will air on Oct. 23.
