Blake Shelton announced that he would be leaving The Voice after its 23rd season. However, new reports suggested that even before his exit announcement, the producers had been planning to get rid of him from the show.
The Voice Producers Wanted To Eliminate Blake Shelton As Judge?
Shelton was among the four original The Voice judges, along with Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Adam Levine. On Oct. 11, he announced that he had decided to leave The Voice after Season 23. However, sources told Radar Online that the producers had been working on getting rid of him in the past months.
Sources told the outlet that after Ariana Grande joined the show in Season 21, the producers started to rethink the cast. They allegedly realized they wanted someone of Grande's age and caliber.
"Current top ten artists like Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X, Billie Elish, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd, were all hesitant about starring on a competition show before Ariana Grande signed on," a source told RadarOnline.com. "After a decade on the show, producers are quietly looking to replace Blake with someone younger and more current. Blake is great but he is not in Ariana's league."
The tipster added that "It is time for a shake-up" and the only way for the show to remain fresh is "by constantly evolving," a Hollywood agent said.
Grande left the show after one season. However, the producers were able to replace her with the Senorita singer, Camilla Cabello.
For the final season, Gwen Stefani and John Legend will also be leaving and will be replaced by One Direction star Niall Horan and Chance The Rapper. Kelly Clarkson will return, but Cabello will not.
With Shelton leaving the reality talent competition, the producers hope to grab a younger talent to replace him.
