Guillermo del Toro's cold war-set fantasy thriller The Shape of Water has won 'Best Picture' at the 90th Academy Awards, winning a strong competition from GetOut, Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri in what many considered to be one of the closest Oscars race in many years. Del Toro also won 'Best Director' for his masterful work.
The Shape of Water's Best Picture win was presented by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, who had been involved in 2017's mix-up over Moonlight and La La Land. Beatty acknowledged the fiasco, saying "It's so nice seeing you again", and Dunaway added:"Presenting is lovelier second time around."
On receiving the 'Best Picture' award, del Toro said, "I want to dedicate this to the young film-makers; the youth who are showing [us] how things are done."

Earlier this year, Del Toro also won the Golden Globe for Best Director. The Shape of Water also won best at the Critics' Choice awards and the Producers Guild awards.
Del Toro's The Shape of Water was beautiful but I was rooting for Jordan Peele's Get Out to win Best Picture. It won Best Original Screenplay though, so it's good it got recognition.
