The Last of Us Stars Bonded Over Unexpected Connection Before Filming

Gabriel Luna and Pedro Pascal will be playing estranged brothers in the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us and it looks like the two actors had an interesting way to make a connection even before filming began. Luna has just revealed that he and Pascal bonded over their personal similarities.

Gabriel Luna recently spoke to CBR about how he prepared to play Tommy Miller in The Last of Us. Although the Agents of SHIELD star had wanted to meet with Pedro Pascal, who plays Tommy's brother Joel Miller, they were unable to do face-to-face meetings because of the COVID-19 lockdowns.

"I was locked up in my room for two weeks before we started shooting," Luna said. "We didn't have the benefit of being able to get together physically as quickly as we would've wanted to."

Although they didn't get to hang out before production began, Luna and Pascal bonded over online meetings. During these meetings, the Terminator: Dark Fate actor learned that he and the former Game of Thrones star had similar backgrounds.

"It became FaceTime conversations and through our conversations, I made the discovery that he was born in Chile. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas, which is a neighboring city to Austin... So knowing that all of a sudden gave us this immediate comfort with each other," Luna explained.

It's great to know that Gabriel Luna and Pedro Pascal had similarities that allowed them to connect to each other. Interestingly, their COVID-19 situation was also similar to Tommy and Joel, who spend most of the game (and the TV series) separated.

The Last of Us will also star Bella Ramsey as Ellie, a young girl who is escorted by Joel across a post-apocalyptic United States.

The highly anticipated series will consist of nine episodes, the first of which is set to premiere on HBO on January 15, 2023.
