People are understandably hyped up about The Last of Us Season 2 after what happened in the first season. But is there a future for the HBO series beyond the next season? Co-showrunner Craig Mazin says that there could be more stories to tell beyond the upcoming second season.

We already know that The Last of Us Season 2 will adapt The Last of Us Part II, which also happens to be the last title in the Naughty Dog video game franchise. Still, Craig Mazin assures that the series will not end with the second season since there is “quite a bit of story to tell”.

“Our plan is to do it not just for one more season,” he said during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in Las Vegas (via Deadline). “We should be around for a while.”

This is certainly great news considering that people enjoyed the first season and are eager to see what happens in The Last of Us Season 2. With game co-creator Neil Druckmann involved in the show, there is little doubt that the team will explore more stories in the future.

In related news, Neil Druckmann revealed that The Last of Us Season 2 will change an important moment in the game. Druckmann pointed out that there is a possibility that the scene where Joel sings to Ellie will feature a different song since it would be impossible for Joel to know Future Days by Pearl Jam because it was released in 2013.

“I could tell you we haven’t made a decision. We have talked about it for those exact reasons that you mentioned, that now it makes no sense for Joel to know that song,” Druckmann told Kinda Funny.

For now, The Last of Us Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
