There are a lot of things that The Last of Us has changed from the Naughty Dog video game. One of the most significant changes was the Infected growing and using tendrils instead of spores. In addition, it was revealed that the Clickers are mysteriously connected underground so a horde that is miles away can be alerted immediately when someone steps on an Infected. But how exactly does that work? Co-showrunner Craig Mazin confirms we'll find out in The Last of Us Season 2.

Craig Mazin took part in HBO's The Last of Us podcast where he assured fans that they will learn more about the cordyceps infection and other mysteries in The Last of Us Season 2.

"Something that I think we will be exploring further in the next season, I think this first time around, we were learning so much about how to create the Infected and how to televise them in a way that was exciting and didn't seem goofy or weird or artificial," Mazin said.

"I think we figured out that. I think this next season, the interconnectivity of them, and the risk of stepping on the wrong thing, that stuff is going to be brought forward more for sure," he continued.

This is great news considering that it also means we'll see more Clickers in the second season. Fans had complained that the series didn't feature enough zombies but we're looking forward to more zombie action in Season 2.

But when exactly can we expect to see the second season? According to Bella Ramsey, it might be a long wait. The former Game of Thrones star pointed out that the series might not return until late next year.

"It will be a while," Ramsey said. "I think we'll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next. So it'll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025."

The Last of Us Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
