The Gifted Beats Inhumans In The Ratings

While ABC's Inhumans did well, all things considered, Fox's The Gifted did a bit better during its premiere. According to Deadline, the X-Men spinoff was able to garner 4.8 million viewers. The show actually did better than Legion, Fox's first X-Men television show, so this could be a sign of things to come.

Part of the show's success could be the lead-in from Lucifer, which has proven to be a popular show despite not being too faithful to the original comics. Considering how many people stayed to watch The Gifted, the spinoff could garner more interest from here on in. Add the acclaim the show has gotten and it's easy to write this off as a success story.

Considering the lack of Marvel or X-Men related names on the title, it's actually quite surprising to see the show do this well. Legion did fine but did not do as well as The Gifted, though that might have to do with the trippy nature of the former. Marketing-wise, The Gifted did a good job establishing its similarities to the X-Men.

Are more X-Men shows coming to Fox? Only time will tell. In the meantime, there are new movies coming in New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
