The Flash Will Have a Unique Villain for Season 4

As with any series, there's always a danger of having things unwittingly repeat themselves. Whether it's a formula to follow from premiere to midseason to season finale or a similar character showing up, it's a fallback and a tendency that some writers do go through.

With The Flash, we've seen that happen in several times. Three times, in fact. In its three-season run. And they were all Speedsters.

We had Reverse Flash, then Zoom, then Savitar. And even though they had different motives and personalities, they were not only the same kind of villain, the way they were incorporated into Team Flash were also, in a way, similar.

It seems that the creators have started to think about the series' direction as well. Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said at an event (via Entertainment Weekly) that it will be different for season 4.

"Next season, we're not going to have a speedster [as the villain]."

This promise also comes with the identification of Abra Kadabra as a villain when he appeared in episode 18. The creators did reveal that they already know who Savitar is behind his creepy mask, and that they had been preparing for this moment.

I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be another reveal of a person who has been close to the group all along.

The Flash airs Tuesdays on the CW.
