The Flash Team Prepares for Operation Save Iris

The Flash's mid-season finale had suggested a very grave future waiting for Iris. But since this is The Flash we're talking about, where time jumps and saving Iris are pretty much prerogatives, then we know that the show will be back with the team trying its best to revert this.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, The Flash Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg shared a little bit about how the team plans to overcome this hurdle.

"Whether they do get out of it is the question. In an upcoming episode, they learn a little bit more about the future and they now have a list of things they know will occur between now and May. Their operating principle is can they stop enough of these things to change time? They have a little bit of a road map. It reminds me of Oliver's list. They've got a mission every week to see if they can change the future."

But that's not all the hints that we're being given. Kreisberg also adds that even though there's a chance that Team Flash can prevent Iris's death, someone else may still die. While we're not given a hint on who this person can be, it does make some sense.

Flashpoint had brought a number of consequences that Barry had not predicted. Perhaps the worse ones are Caitlin getting unmanageable Killer Frost powers and Cisco's brother dying in an accident.

As the season has been harping on, The Flash is not a god in that he can predict what will happen down to the last detail. There are certain decisions and events that can't be controlled even by him, so other events that they can't prevent are bound to happen.

The interesting question to speculate would be which character could be in the crossfire of destiny. There are certainly a lot more characters now, but a lot of them are very integral to the story.

There is one new returning character whose comeback has yet to be explained. Though I for one don't advocate killing him off as a trade-off for Iris—the man has already sacrificed himself once.

The Flash will be back on Jan. 24 on the CW.
