The Batman: Joe Manganiello Talks About Deathstroke And His Future In The DCEU

Back when Ben Affleck was still attached to direct The Batman, we heard that Joe Manganiello was the first actor in line to play Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. With Matt Reeves taking over the project, it's possible that plans for Deathstroke have been changed, and Joe Manganiello talks about his involvement with the project.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Manganiello tries to remain neutral about the status of Deathstroke. Here's the exchange:

THR: I think a lot of people are wondering what the status of Deathstroke is in the next Batman movie now that Ben Affleck is off the project as director. Do you have any information about that?

Manganiello: I don't. Well, I do but nothing that I can share. I know everything but I can't say any of it.

THR: Was that imparted in a happy way or a downtrodden way? I'm trying to interpret the fluctuations in your tone.

Manganiello: [Pause.] I'm shooting for a neutral tone.

THR: You're succeeding.

Manganiello: Thanks.

THR: Any idea when we'll find out?

Manganiello: It's not up to me. That's a good question for Warner Bros. and D.C.

A lot of fans (including Manganiello himself) were initially excited about the involvement of Deathstroke since it would have been the first appearance of the character in a feature-length film. With the new director said to be making the story from the ground up, we have no idea just how much Deathstroke will be in this new film or if he would be in the film at all.

Granted Jared Leto has still yet to prove himself a good Joker, WB may want to have him clash with the Dark Knight in his next solo movie. Then again, Deathstroke is one of the rare DC villains that can actually match wits and skills with Batman. Hopefully we get an update soon.

There is no official release date for The Batman, but the Dark Knight does return in Justice League which comes out Nov. 17.
