The Amazon Lord Of The Ring Series Will Feature Stories Of Characters That Fans Love

Amazon is bringing The Lord of Things to television and it looks like fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy books and fans of Peter Jackson's film trilogy are going to get a show that's both familiar and new from the network.

Speaking in an interview with Deadline, Amazon Studios President Jennifer Salke openly discusses the upcoming The Lord of the Rings series.

According to Salke, the deal for the show just closed "like a month ago," though she has already sat down with Simon Tolkien (JRR Tolkien's grandson) for a couple of hours while Sharon Tal Yguado (Amazon TV Executive) has spent a lot of time with them.

Salke also spoke about the conversations with Peter Jackson. Though the network would love to bring the director in, Jackson's role in the series is still currently up for the debate.

"The Peter Jackson conversations, right now we're right in the middle of them," Salke reveals. "It's like, how much do you want to be involved, how little? I know there's been some discussion, and he's even said some things, but as far as I'm aware, the latest is that we're just in a conversation with him about how much or how little he would be involved."

That's pretty interesting, considering that last week the fantasy director told fans that he wasn't interested in working on the series anymore. Perhaps the series is still trying to find a way to get Jackson on board. Maybe as a director, maybe as a creative consultant.

What fans will be glad to know though is that the series is going to feature stories centered around characters they already love.

"I think you can know that we're not remaking the movies, but we're also not starting from scratch," Salke told the publication. "So, it'll be characters you love."

That's definitely a thumbs up. It'd be heartbreaking to know that the highly anticipated Amazon Lord of the Ring series didn't even focus on characters we know.

The Lord of the Ring series doesn't have a release date just yet but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
