Thanos Comic Series Launching For Marvel Now! Writer and Artist Revealed

Fans have seen glimpses of this powerful titan in the after-credits of Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Some who may not be familiar with what could be the one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe will now get to know him a little bit more.

Marvel has announced (via ComicBook.com) a new Thanos series coming to Marvel Now! Writer Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Animal Man) and artist Mike Deodato (Wonder Woman, Dark Avengers) are set to be the duo who will be writing The Big Bad's epic adventure in his very own series.

According to Lemire, their take on the series will be unique in that the series will have a darker POV; that is, a villain's point of view. It will also be an ongoing series that could very well play solidly into the ongoing Marvel Universe, easy enough to have some hand in Marvel's Grand Plan. As Lemire puts it:

"The truth is that it's Thanos' past that makes him so interesting. What motivates a god-like being like this? What makes him tick and what does he have left to fight for? these are compelling questions to me, and I think to the reader. But above all, this series just has so much potential."

Quite so, as both Lemire and Deodato even brought up the possibility of making Thanos into an essential Darth Vader-esque alpha villain of the Marvel Universe.

Without going into specifics, the duo teased that the first issue already contains what Thanos' mission will be. And the cosmic cube is supposedly not in it. They also assured fans that there will be a solid support cast, some of which are underused characters in the Marvel universe. Among those to watch out for is Thanos' extended family and perhaps the dynamics that led to a change in the relationship.

Lemire and Deodato did not mention a release date just yet, but from the looks of it, this will be one of the darker comic series planned for the Marvel Universe.

As if the dark side treatment to this series wasn't enough to entice me, I've been looking forward to Thanos role in Marvel's Grand Plan since I saw that after-credits scene. Hopefully, we'll see the reason behind Thanos' madness--because I'm all for exploring what makes villains tick.
