Taron Egerton Responds To Han Solo Rumors

Rumors of Taron Egerton playing the young Han Solo in the Star Wars spin-off film of the same title started since February. A few weeks after that, updates were scarce, but furor about the highly-envied role started again last week when a casting shortlist had allegedly been leaked.

Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton was among the three shortlisted actors. However, the 26-year-old breakout star is now confirming that he was never considered for the role.

During an appearance at The Jonathan Ross Show to promote Eddie the Eagle, Egerton clarified:

I’ve heard this rumor, yes. I mean I’ve seen the stuff on the Internet, and I think any lad of my age would kill to play a part like that. It’s very, very flattering. I’ve no idea if there’s any truth in it but I mean, Lucasfilm, Disney, if there is then you know where I am.

Apparently, Disney hasn’t even contacted the Welsh actor for to play the role of the young Han Solo.

The other two actors rumored to be in the “young Han Solo shortlist” include Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) and Jack Reynor (Macbeth).

It’s pretty clear Egerton isn’t being considered by Disney for the role, but personally, I have no idea who could make the best portrayal of a young Han Solo, who was made famous by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars films. Although Anthony Ingruber does make a pretty good impression of Harrison Ford.

As for Egerton, his Eddie the Eagle co-star Hugh Jackman has said before he thinks Egerton could replace him as Wolverine.

Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo is slated for release on May 25, 2018.

Who do you think will play young Han Solo best?
