Taika Waititi Reacts Hilariously To James Gunn Being Rehired For GOTG V3

The world is currently celebrating as James Gunn has been reinstated as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, it looks like Taika Waititi isn't happy about the news at all.

Waititi found out that Disney has brought Gunn back to direct the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel through social media. The Thor: Ragnarok director didn't waste any time and immediately tweeted out his "disappointment" over Gunn's return. Take a look at his post below.

"What the hell?? I thought I was going to do it!!" Waititi wrote.

Of course, Waititi is just joking but people have long believed that the New Zealand filmmaker would take over the project. After all, Waititi met with Disney a few months back, which led to speculations that he would be offered the responsibility of directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, it turns out that those meetings were probably for Waititi to work on one of the episodes of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Gunn was removed from GOTG V3 after his old offensive tweets resurfaced back in July. Although Gunn met with Disney chairman Alan Horn in hopes to get his job back, it seemed like the studio wasn't willing to give him another chance. Needless to say, fans are delighted that Disney and Marvel are bringing Gunn back to work on the highly anticipated film.

It is still unclear when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will begin production. However, there is a possibility that Gunn will immediately get started on the movie as soon as he completes the DC Extended Universe flick Suicide Squad 2 next year.
