Sword Art Online Mobile Game Announced by Bandai Namco


The 10th anniversary of Sword Art Online is happening this year and the franchise is going all out with the celebration. In addition to some awesome updates on its anime projects, it has just been confirmed that Sword Art Online is getting a mobile game with Bandai Namco Entertainment and the title will be launched worldwide later this year!

Bandai Namco has announced Sword Art Online Variant Showdown, a new mobile game set in the world of Aincrad. The announcement came with a trailer that features some of the gameplay in the title. You can check out the trailer below.

Sword Art Online Variant Showdown will still feature the franchise's central protagonist Kirito as he hears about a new game titled Cross Edge that was designed by a genius junior high school student and is already getting the attention of several players. However, Kirito also hears a rumor about the game. According to the rumor, players who are defeated in the game by a mysterious hooded player end up losing part of their memory. Upon hearing this, Kirito immediately recalls the PK guild Killing Coffin.

For now, Sword Art Online Variant Showdown has not yet been given an official release date. However, there will be new updates on the upcoming title in a special livestream event hosted by Bandai Namco on April 6, 2022. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

The new mobile game is part of the Sword Art Online 10th anniversary celebration. The franchise had also announced Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yuyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk), the second film in the series. In addition to that, the home video release of the first movie Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night is set for July.
