'Supergirl' Rakes in High Ratings, Will Add New Hero

The Supergirl season two premiere yesterday bought CW ratings to a notable high, TVLine reports. The episode, The Adventures of Supergirl, drew in 3 million viewers. This actually counts as a high for the show's timeslot.

Supergirl was the most-watched show in the 8 P.M. Monday TV timeslot since an episode of Gossip Girl Eight years ago. It earned a 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic, which is up triple digits compared the show in the timeslot last year, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Supergirl is officially the most watched Monday night show on the CW since a 90210 episode six years ago.

But there's more Supergirl news to be had. James Olsen is going to take up the mantle of the Guardian on the show, The EW reports. The Guardian is a sheild-weilding DC superhero who debuted in 1942. However, Jimmy Olsen never took up that mantle in the comics.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said that the next few episodes of Supergirl "are going to make him realize that being a photographer… is not enough for him, so he's going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we're really pumped by. James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he's going to decide to become a vigilante and he's going to become Guardian — complete with the shield — which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara, because he has decided not to tell her."

According to Kriesberg, Kara's other guy-pal, Winn, will also be involved as the Guardian's helper. ""He's recruited Winn to help him, Winn is his man in the van, so the two of them are doing this together. Winn and James together is comedy gold. Watching Winn, as he takes his job at the DEO, but then he's lying to everybody about how he's spending his nights, because he's going out with James, and how he walks in exhausted or walks in with a black eye and says he walked into a door, is the fun excitement of building these first 10 episodes."

I'm really glad Supergirl is doing well in the CW ratings and it will be interesting to see how the new direction with James plays out. What do you think of the new direction with James? Are you excited to see him take up the Guardian mantle?
