Summer of ‘84 Trailer: Movie Looks Like Stranger Things but with Teens and a Serial Killer

Ever since Stranger Things came out in 2016, we've been getting a lot of 80s nostalgia-themed movies. There was the IT reboot from last year, and now we have a trailer for this film called Summer of '84.

Here's the official description:

Summer, 1984: The perfect time to be 15 years old and free. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous.

I'll admit, the movie looks fun, but it does feel a lot like Stranger Things, just with the main characters aged up. Also, instead of the Demogorgon or the Upside Down, the teens are going up against a serial killer.

Like Stranger Things was an ode to Stephen King and 80s movies, this film looks to be a tribute to the slasher genre. I think they even cast the suspicious cop perfectly. If you watch The Office, Mad Men, or GLOW, you'll know that Rich Sommer has a penchant for playing unlikeable characters.

The movie actually looks like a good bit of fun, and you can catch Summer of '84 in theaters Aug. 10.
