Suicide Squad 2: ‘Orphan’ Director Jaume Collet-Serra Frontrunner To Helm

Suicide Squad was a critical bomb, but the movie made a lot of money in the box office, and Warner Bros has officially greenlit a sequel. With director David Ayer focusing on Gotham City Sirens, someone else is being considered to take the helm for this project.

According to Deadline, the frontrunner to helm the film is director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, The Shallows). Another director that has been rumored for the movie is Mel Gibson, but script delays had caused Gibson to move on to another project. Seeing that nothing is set in stone yet, Collet-Serra's frontrunner position could very well change.

THR also reports that the script for the movie will be written by Zak Penn, who's worked on several X-Men movies, The Avengers, and the upcoming Ready Player One. Since the movies he's worked on has had focus on ensemble heroes, it might be safe to say that he has what it takes to write the Suicide Squad sequel.

Since it was said that David Ayer had to rush the Suicide Squad script in the span of six weeks, hopefully this sequel will give Penn enough prep time to make sure that this movie turns out way better than its predecessor.

No official release date has been set for Suicide Squad 2.
