Succession Season 3 was one of the most exciting yet, with the Roy family embroiled in a full-fledged civil war.
One of the most devastating moments was the apparent death of Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), which left viewers wondering about the show's future. The HBO show's season finale, however, eventually provided some answers to viewers.
Did Kendall Really Die?
Kendall, arguably the toughest of the Roy family, has had a difficult time throughout the three seasons of the show.
He fought relentlessly to seize control of the family business in the first season, but while gaining some support, he ultimately lost. Logan Roy (Brian Cox), his father, then sacked him from the company, sending him on a path of drugs, alcohol, and general depravity.
He nearly drowned in a car accident towards the end of the first season while intoxicated and high, and some fans believe this could have foreshadowed the events witnessed at the end of Season 3.
Kendall's fate was left ambiguous in the season's penultimate episode, with it appearing as though he drowned in a swimming pool. However, the season finale revealed that he did not die, narrowly averting the same fate he narrowly avoided two years previously.
However, it raised a slew of questions, with it appearing likely that he was left alone in the pool on purpose. Anyone could have wanted to see him drown in this show, as each Roy member and beyond is backstabbing and nasty.
Connor (Alan Ruck), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) seem genuinely worried about his well-being at the moment. They believe he tried to commit suicide and organized an intervention to help him overcome his drug troubles.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Strong is expected to reprise his role as Kendall in the fourth season, which was recently confirmed. The former heir to the Roy throne is in worse shape than he's ever been, and things are only going to get worse for him in the fourth season.
What Should We Expect in Succession Season 4?
In an interview with GQ UK, Brian Cox announced that production will begin in June 2022. So, what implications can we draw from this?
The storyline for Succession Season 4will likely be similar to that of Season 3, but instead of Kendall being on the outs, Shiv, Roman, and Ken will be trying to stop Logan.
Season 4's plot has yet to be released by HBO, as it is currently in the early stages of development. What is known is that the show is approaching its logical conclusion, with the showrunners hinting that the fourth season may be the final one.
