The 2017 hit K-drama Stranger is in talks to return for season 3 with a whole new story.

In a report cited by Osen, the production team behind the thriller crime series is planning to release its third installment but with a different version.


Stranger Season 3 Will be a Spin-Off? Here’s What We Know So Far

According to the outlet, officials are looking at the possibility to launch Stranger season 3 into a spin-off that deals with a new story.


While the first two seasons gained much love from viewers, the upcoming season is expected to show a different kind of fun starting with its characters.

However, as noted in the same report, a representative from the production company Ace Factory, shared that “nothing has been confirmed” as of the moment regarding Stranger season 3 but they“are discussing various possibilities” for a sequel.

If plans for season 3 have pushed through, Stranger season 3 is set to be released by the end of 2023.

Amid the plans on giving the upcoming sequel a spin-off, it is yet to be confirmed if lead stars Cho Seung Woo and Bae Doona will reprise their roles as elite prosecutor Hwang Shi Mok and detective Han Yeo Jin.

Released in 2017, the K-drama featured a team-up between detective Han Yeo Jin, played by Bae Doona, and prosecutor Hwang Shi Mok, portrayed by Cho Seung Woo, who uncovers corruption in the prosecutor's office.

Despite the duo having opposing points of view, they managed to work together to solve the case.

Joining Bae Doona and Cho Seung Woo is Shin Hye Sun as rookie prosecutor Young Eun Soo along with Lee Joon Hyuk as Hwang Shi Mok’s colleague.

After three years, Stranger 2 premiered with the two lead stars reprising their roles, along with additional cast members.


Jeon Hye Jin played Choi Bit, the head of the Intelligence Bureau and detective Han’s boss while Choi Moo Sung took the role of lead prosecutor Woo Tae Ha.

Interestingly both seasons garnered high ratings with season 1 ending with 6.6 viewership ratings while the second season’s finale reached an all-time high of 9.4 percent nationwide viewership rating.
