Steven Spielberg Says Star Wars: The Force Awakens "Could Be The Biggest Movie Ever"

Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, directed films that made a lot of money. E.T. and Jaws are on the list of top 10 highest grossing films of all time (adjusted for inflation). Spielberg's opinion on which films would stand to make mega-bucks at the box office is credible, and he talked about the prospects of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

While making the press rounds for Bridge of Spies, Spielberg spoke with RTL and said the following about The Force Awakens:

"I'm a true fan of Star Wars, but I have always felt it was not in my stars to ever direct one. But it was in my stars to admire and attend and see each one numerous times. And I think this new Star Wars could be the biggest movie ever."

As Slashfilm pointed out, even though Spielberg has already seen The Force Awakens three times already, we should take his opinion with a grain of salt, since he's a long-time collaborator with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and mentor to J.J. Abrams. This isn't a surprising revelation. The Force Awakens is very likely to crush box office records despite the film losing to Mockingjay Part 2 in the audience anticipation poll.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit theaters on Dec. 18.
