Steven Spielberg Could Remake West Side Story After Indiana Jones 5

This year will see the release of Steven Spielberg's live-action adaptation of Ready Player One, but the veteran director is said to have multiple other projects set in his sights—one of which is a remake of the 1960s classic West Side Story.

According to Deadline, after the release of Ready Player One, Spielberg has signed on to do another Indiana Jones movie, which is set for a release in 2020. There are no specific plans about what Spielberg wants to do afterwards, but he did affirm that he wanted to remake the modern classic.

To those who aren't familiar with West Side Story, the movie was based on a Broadway musical that sought to be a modern remake of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Instead of quarreling families, it's quarreling gangs, with the American Jets going against the Latin Sharks. Tony (Romeo) was a member of the Jets who falls in love with Maria (Juliet) the sister of the Sharks gang leader.

We don't know how solid Spielberg's plans are for West Side, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people will want to see what he has to bring to the table. The film has already made its place in pop culture, and I would like to see what a master like Spielberg has to bring to the table.

We don't know when Spielberg's West Side Story is coming out, but we can catch Ready Player One when it hits theaters March 30.
