It's been a while since we last heard about Starz's upcoming TV series based on Neil Gaiman's award-winning novel American Gods. We saw the concept art for it months ago, and now, we finally know the actor who's playing the lead role: Ricky Whittle!

Best known to American audiences for his role on The 100, the Hollyoaks alum will play ex-convict Shadow Moon, who upon early release from prison, is hired to be the bodyguard of a mysterious con man named Wednesday. It's soon revealed, however, that Wednesday is an incarnation of All-Father Odin, who's traveling America to recruit felllow forgotten deities to wage an epic war against the new American gods — manifestations of modern life and credit cards, technology, and the media.

Now that they found the actor to play Shadow, Deadline reports that American Gods will start filming in April.

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are the showrunners and writers, with David Slade on board to direct the pilot and additional episodes. Neil Gaiman is an executive producer for the show.
