Star Wars: The Last Jedi Wins In Its Fourth Weekend In Japan

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might be struggling to beat a local comedy film in China, however it seems like Lucasfilm's latest sequel trilogy installment is doing just fine right over in Japan.

According to a report by Variety, The Last Jedi has just recently won its fourth weekend at the box office in Japan, beating out Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

Matthew Vaughn's action-adventure spy comedy may have performed better than Kingsman: The Secret Service, earning $5.2 million four days after its January 5 release in Japan. However, the film was still outpaced by the Last Jedi which earned a cumulative profit of $55 million on 4.14 million admissions.

The Force Awakens sequel has managed to rake in a total of $1.22 billion at the global box office after a twenty-five day run in theaters, overpowering Lucasfilm's 2016 spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Last Jedi has been named the highest grossing film of 2017, though it's yet to be seen whether the film will be able to catch up to The Force Awakens $2 billion gross.

Lucasfilm's very first sequel trilogy installment had 168 days (24 weeks) in cinemas, so it's pretty safe to say that The Last Jedi has a fair bit of time to try to inch closer to the earnings of its predecessor.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
