Star Wars: The Last Jedi Will ‘Absolutely’ Give Us An Answer On Rey’s Parentage

We know that we'll be getting three movies in the sequel trilogy that was launched by The Force Awakens, but the good news is, we don't have to wait until the last movie to get answers to one of the biggest questions being asked — who are Rey's parents?

In an interview with Good Morning America, director Rian Johnson confirms that Rey's parentage will be "something that's absolutely going to be addressed." Here's the interview:

If we get all the answers in The Last Jedi, this might actually parallel the original trilogy in a way that all the answers are given to us in the second movie. The third movie will then explore how the characters cope up with those revelations.

A lot of people are guessing that Rey is the daughter of Luke, but seeing that it's such an obvious answer, fans are hoping that the answer might be something else. One popular theory is that Rey is actually a descendant of Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The thing with fan theories is, I love reading them, but I'm always praying that they aren't true. I just feel like the movie gets spoiled if a theory is actually right. I know, it's kind of weird, but that's just me. I guess I'm just hoping that Lucasfilm has something completely original in store for the movie — something no one else is thinking of.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out on Dec. 15.
