Just recently we got some details on Laura Dern's character from Star Wars: The Last Jedi revealing that she is named Admiral Hondo and she will be sort of an anti-Leia who is part of the Resistance and is a āpolitical opponent' to the former Princess. Aside from her appearance which seems to harken to Amidala's regal clothing in the prequels, she will also be bringing her own addition to the fleet, and they will be similar to Clone Wars-era starships.
Making Star Wars describes them:
They're sort of an abstract design but they have ball turrets on them just like the Clone Warsā Low Altitude Assault Transports(LAAT) from Attack of the Clones. Supposedly you can see the Resistance fighters in them as they blast TIEs and go up against Supreme Leader Snoke's Mega Destroyer. These ships were called "Honey Droppers" during production and the codename for the Mega Destroyer was the "100 Acre Wood."
If you look back at Attack of the Clones, the same pods from the LAATs actually shot beams very similar to those of the Death Star ā tiny green lasers that met at one point to produce a more powerful blast. No doubt this tech was supposed to serve as some kind of precursor to the Empire's Superweapon. I guess only Galen Erso knows that for sure.
It would be nice to see some new ships coming to The Last Jedi this time around since we only got rehashes of classic ships like X-Wings and TIE fighters in The Force Awakens. Though I did love them when they came out, I have to admit I was just blinded by nostalgia. Bring in the new ships!
Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out on Dec. 15.
