Star Wars: The Last Jedi Named The Most Profitable Blockbuster Of 2017

Star Wars: The Last Jedi may not have earned as much as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the second Star Wars sequel trilogy installment actually turned out to be 2017's most profitable blockbuster movie.

Deadline just recently made a list of the top ten most profitable tentpole movies of 2017 based on the numbers calculated by their experts, and it looks like The Last Jedi's taken the top spot with its $1.3 billion global earnings.

The film's $220 million opening was the second biggest opening ever, following closely behind The Force Awakens' $247.9 million opening.

According to the publication's analysts, the film's cash on cash return ration comes up at a healthy 1.72, making the film the most profitable blockbuster of 2017.

But that's not all. The film's also been doing pretty well outside of its theatrical run. Not only has the film been selling well on Digital HD, but reports also say that the film's Blu-Ray version has been selling out on Amazon.

It just goes to show that despite the outrage expressed by the vocal minority, The Last Jedi still pretty much wins at a commercial level.

Here's the synopsis for The Last Jedi:

"Luke Skywalker's peaceful and solitary existence gets upended when he encounters Rey, a young woman who shows strong signs of the Force. Her desire to learn the ways of the Jedi forces Luke to make a decision that changes their lives forever. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren and General Hux lead the First Order in an all-out assault against Leia and the Resistance for supremacy of the galaxy."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital HD.
