Star Wars The Last Jedi: Mark Hamill Describes What It Was Like Coming Back To The Millennium Falcon After So Long

Though he was absent for 99 percent of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mark Hamill will be a lot more prominent the sequel, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Some trailers and TV spots had Luke Skywalker walking back in the Millennium Falcon, and apparently, according to Hamill, he had an emotional moment when he walked into the ship for the first time after so many years.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Hamill said:

"I'm telling you, I didn't expect to have the reaction I had. I was there with my family, with [my children] Nathan and Griffin and Chelsea and my wife Marilou, and [Lucasfilm] asked if the documentary crew could be there when I came back on the Millennium Falcon. I mean, this was not on the shooting day. I was just street clothes and going to visit that set. And I said, ‘Sure.'"

It was sort of like visiting an old house that you lived in when you were a kid. I mean, I just welled up with emotion and I said, ‘I need to be by myself.'"

As for Hamill's character, director Rian Johnson also says that the ship is "filled with ghosts" for an old Luke Skywalker. No doubt, Luke must have some guilty feelings in losing young Ben Solo to the Dark Side.

The movie is less than a month away, and the hype is building up for the release of The Last Jedi in December. Aside from the movie, a lot of fans are also hoping that we'll get our first look at Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story. With the film set for a release early next year, Lucasfilm should at least give us a teaser before the year ends.

Catch Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theaters Dec. 15.
