Star Wars The Last Jedi: Kelly Marie Tran Had Never Watched A Star Wars Movie Before She Was Cast

Though Star Wars already has new protagonists in the form of Finn, Rey, and Poe, a new character will be introduced to us The Last Jedi called Rose Tico played by Kelly Marie Tran. As it turns out, Tran had never seen a Star Wars movie prior to her being cast in the film, and she actually thinks this helped with her performance.

Talking to BuzzFeed, Tran admitted:

"I didn't have this expectation of what I thought this person should be like; I wasn't trying to model her after someone I'd seen in a movie… And this is why, I'm telling you. The fact that I hadn't grown up with Star Wars really helped me. I think I would have fallen over."

Seeing how influential the franchise is, it's amazing that a lot of actors cast in Star Wars movies aren't the biggest fans of the films. Granted, it doesn't really have to take a fan to pull off a good performance; just ask Harrison Ford. The man absolutely hates Star Wars, but everyone loves watching him as Han Solo.

With Rose being introduced halfway through the sequel trilogy, it's safe to say that she's the series' new Lando Calrissian. Though she may not have been part of the adventure for the first film, I can already imagine a lot of audiences falling in love with her character.

Catch Tran in Star Wars: The Last Jedi which hits theaters Dec. 15.
