Star Wars The Force Awakens Has a Part-Ferrari Millennium Falcon

Fans may have been hit with nostalgia when the Millennium Falcon showed up and flew in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But that's not exactly the same one flown by still-young Han Solo (Harrison Ford) way back.

Instead, it has parts of an old Ferrari inside, giving its name some validation as the fastest junk in space. ABC News reported that the visual effect team in Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, fashioned off some pieces for the Falcon.

"This is a Ferrari model kit. It's an old Formula One car, a Ferrari 312. The traditional model shop did some amazing, amazing work. And I think we really tried to respect that style of model making, and really tried to tell a story with details on our models as well."

Rogue One also saw a number of its ships fashioned digitally, including the X-Wings, Y-Wings, and Star Destroyers, while getting some previous models and help from the original models back in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

For instance, the Y-Wing was a Saturn V rocket kit. For some of the spaceships, they had to do reverse-engineering, because some of the kits are no longer sold in retail stores.

After digital scanning and recreation, the digital models were then added to the space battles in Rogue One. It's no wonder Rogue One had been nominated for best visual effects for the upcoming Annual Academy Awards.
