Star Wars: The Force Awakens DVD and Blu-Ray Copies Have Become Fastest-Selling in 2016 Yet

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just set the record as the fastest-selling movie in history with its DVD and Blu-ray copies.

According to OfficialCharts.com, the J.J. Abrams film sold an astounding 1.189 million copies during its first seven days in the market, making it the fastest-selling DVD/Blu-ray of the year so far.

The news isn't really a surprise since The Force Awakens is one of the world's most anticipated films in history, especially as the last Star Wars film – Revenge of the Sith – was released ten years ago. However, achieving the title is still is a great feat since it seems sales weren't affected by news last week of fans being disappointedby the lack of features on the DVD.

The film's sales has surpassed that of the James Bond film Spectre, which sold 987,000 copies in February.

The seventh instalment of the space opera series, which began in 1977, Star Wars: The Force Awakens sees the return of original stars Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, and Harrison Ford as Han Solo after 30 years. They are joined by newcomers Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron in the new generation.

The next installment in the saga is Star Wars: Episode VIII, which hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
