Ever since Solo: A Star Wars Story hit its one-year anniversary last week, there has been an influx of support from fans about making a sequel happen. Director Ron Howard gave a smiley when it was blowing up all over Twitter, but now he talks a bit more about his reaction to the fans.
Of course, it isn't any confirmation that a sequel has been greenlit, but at least we know that Ron Howard is appreciative of the fans showing their love for the movie.
When Solo came out last year, it sadly underperformed in the box office; but it had nothing to do about the quality of the film. Anyone who saw the movie has expressed that they've loved it. It ultimately boiled down to Disney not marketing the film strongly enough—they put all the focus on getting everyone in the theater to watch Avengers: Infinity War. What's more, some fans were still reeling from The Last Jedi which came out only a few months before.
If anything, Solo has proved that Star Wars is now categorized as a holiday movie, and some think that it would have done better if it was released in December. Of course, it isn't a guarantee that a Christmas release would've succeeded, but I'm sure it was better than being sandwiched in May along with the other blockbuster flicks.
Solo 2 has not been officially announced, but you can catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters Dec. 20.
