Star Wars: Rian Johnson Apologizes For Chewbacca's Porg Roasting

It's been a good few months since Star Wars: The Last Jedi and it continues to be a hugely divisive movie amongst the fanbase. One of the more controversial additions to the film was the Porgs, cute animals who annoyed a number of movie watchers, despite not doing much in their runtime. Despite the split reaction, some fans were shocked to see Chewbacca roasting some of these animals in one of the earlier scenes.

Rian Johnson, the director of the latest Star Wars installment, has decided to apologize for the scene in a humorous fashion.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the director gave a brief apology for the scene. While he did bring up how Chewbacca didn't end up eating the adorable critters, the fact that he killed them might have been too much for some. Granted, this isn't one of the film's bigger problems but it probably shocked those that enjoyed seeing the Porgs.

"He doesn't eat them, I guess, to be fair. That's a small recompense for those poor porgs. Sorry."

Johnson states that the roasting scene was always in the script, so when he saw reactions to these cute critters online, he braced himself for their inevitable reactions.

"It was always there. "So the instant we introduced the porgs and people started joking about recipes for them before the movie came out, I was like, 'Oh boy."

Expect a home release date for Star Wars: The Last Jedi soon. In the meantime, Solo: A Star Wars Story will be hitting theaters this year, on May 25.
