Star Wars Celebration is here, and the event is full of some sweet panels, including one for Star Wars Rebels. Dave Filoni has just shared some concept art for the next season, including a new look at former clone commander Rex. The armor, however, does look kind of familiar.
Check out this comparison by David Taylor:
Of course, some could just call that out as some fan speculation, but Dave Filoni himself has said that he believes that Rex was present during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. During his panel, he said:
"The one thing that I have toyed with and we'll see how I feel about this, this is probably a spoiler, Carrie Beck, but I gotta give them something. I've said absolutely nothing today. And my wife's like yeah, it's just like being home. But I think the one thing I have really thought about is I really do think that Rex is that guy on Endor. I really do. Why else is there a bearded old guy on Endor, Tano? Why? It makes no sense. If you don't want that to happen, do you know what that means? I'm gonna make that happen. I'm getting like Palpatine, I'm getting power crazy." – via /Film
Knowing how expansive the Star Wars universe is, that bearded guy would have already been named way before Captain Rex was even an idea — actually, his name is Nik "Gramps" Sant, Endor Strike team survival expert — but since those stories are now officially removed from the canon, they could very well make that character Rex.
Then again, clone troopers age four times faster than average humans, so Filoni has quite the plothole to go around.
