Star Wars: The Force Awakens showed that sometimes happy endings don't stay happy forever -- but for those who were sad that Han Solo and Leia Organa Skywalker couldn't preserve their relationship forever, a new excerpt from the Charles Wendig's upcoming novel Star Wars: Aftermath — Empire's End might offer some relief, showing the couple together in happier moments.

The excerpt from the novel debuted Tuesday on the official Star Wars website, and shows Han and Leia discussing the two most important things in their lives together: her pregnancy and the need fro more military strikes against what's left of the Empire.

Wendig's novel shows the pressure points in the couple's relationship that would, eventually, bring them to where they were in The Force Awakens: Han Solo's conviction that there's a better life somewhere and Leia's dedication to what she considers her duty. The scene the excerpt reveals is bittersweet.

Star Wars: Aftermath — Empire's End is the third and final novel of Chuck Wendig's Aftermath trilogy, which chronicles the aftermath of the events of Return of the Jedi and sets up the story of The Force Awakens. The novel will be released on February 21.
