Star Wars: Gwendoline Christie Was Not Allowed Access To The Captain Phasma Spinoff Books

Captain Phasma was probably one of the biggest letdowns of The Force Awakens, but hopefully she gets to do some more relevant stuff in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Gwendoline Christie has been developing a lot of Phasma's backstory with director Rian Johnson, but as it turns out, she's not allowed access to the upcoming novel based on her character.

Talking to IGN, Christie admits:

"I haven't been allowed entry to [the Phasma novel]. I have been following [Phasma author] Delilah Dawson, who I'm following on Twitter just to say, 'Remember me? Do you think about me.'"

It's kind of disappointing that she hasn't been allowed access to the development of the books, especially since she's helping bring the character to life; hopefully it doesn't stray from any plotholes about Phasma in the future. If Star Wars fans can be anything, they are definitely meticulous.

As of now, Christie is doing her own development of the character, and director Rian Johnson is there to help piece Phasma together. She says:

"Rian and I did have long conversations about this character and who she was… And I was utterly delighted in how willing he was to listen to my ideas and really thrilled to exchange them with him and hear his. He really is a master writer and director, and I think we've seen that in the films that he's made but I think that we truly will see that in the depths to which he goes in The Last Jedi."

After Phasma was sadly sidelined in the first movie, it looks like she'll be taking a bigger role in the sequel. A lot of fans have definitely seen her unceremonious fate as homage to Boba Fett in the original trilogy, but fans are still hoping she's as cool at kicking ass as she looks.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out Dec. 15.
